AMPP Prairie Chapter Academic Scholarship

In collaboration with the AMPP EMERG Student Outreach Program, the AMPP Prairie Chapter provides academic scholarships to students pursuing post-secondary education in Science, Engineering, and/or trades related to the corrosion and materials protection industry to promote education and growth within the corrosion and materials protection fields. Financing for this initiative is provided by profits accrued from fundraising and surplus from events organized and hosted by the AMPP Prairie Chapter.

AMPP EMERG will award the following on behalf of the AMPP Prairie Chapter:
• One scholarship valued at $2500, awarded annually.

NOTE: Funds will be paid directly to the student’s institution for school related expenses. The number and value of awards will be reviewed annually and may be cancelled or changed at the discretion of the Prairie Chapter.

1. Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must meet one of the following to be eligible: high school Senior already accepted to a 2- or 4-year college/university (must provide proof of acceptance with application in order to be
    considered), students enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited, 2- or 4-year degree-granting college or university, OR students enrolled full-time in a technical institute or applicable trade school.
  • Applicants must be pursuing a degree or diploma in Science or Engineering, with a specific focus on coatings or the corrosion control industry. Alternately, applicants can be pursuing a career in corrosion, coatings, or material performance trades via technical institute or trade school.
  • Applicants must have either a permanent residence OR a school residence within the boundaries of the AMPP Prairie Chapter, which includes the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, or Alberta.
  • Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, Canadian permanent resident, or in the country on a Canadian study permit with a letter of acceptance from a Canadian Designated Learning Institution.

2. Candidate Evaluation
The following information should be included for review by the Selection Committee:

  • Completed application signed by applicant.
  • Academic transcript
  • Two (2) Recommendation Forms from educators or employers familiar with applicants background
  • Résumé/CV
  • Supplemental Essays

3. Travel Assistance Stipend
The recipient of the AMPP Academic Scholarship is eligible to receive a travel stipend in order to subsidize their travel to AMPP Annual Conference + Expo and be recognized in-person at the Scholarship Awards Ceremony. Attendance at the Scholarship Awards Ceremony is mandatory to receive the stipend. Travel Assistance will be available for pick-up at the conference Registration area during designated times the following Wednesday.

4. Application Guidelines
In addition to the information above, please be sure to review the General Scholarship Guidelines. In order to be considered, applicants must meet all Scholarship Eligibility Requirements, successfully submit all required documentation (including recommendations), and answer all required essay questions.

  1. I confirm I have a permanent residence or attend a school/university within the boundaries of the AMPP Prairie Chapter, which includes the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, or Alberta.
  2. Please provide your official (LOA) Letter of Acceptance (from the Canadian school, university, trade/technical school), Proof of Enrollment, or (PAL) Provincial Attestation Letter issued by the province or territory where you study or will study.
  3. ESSAY: Include a statement of 500 words or less discussing your interest in entering or expanding knowledge of the materials protection industry; how corrosion or coating impacts your area of study; how your coursework, volunteering, work experience, projects, or research are related to the materials and corrosion industry. Also explain the financial need, if applicable.
